About This Video

In this video I unbox and migrate to Home Assistant Blue — Home Assistant’s new all-in-one box based on an Odroid N2+ with 4GB of RAM and a fast 120GB eMMC. The whole point is simple: plug in Ethernet, plug in power, let it boot, and you’re basically at onboarding. I bought mine for $140 and wanted to replace my older Debian-based setup with something smaller, cleaner, and purpose-built without giving up performance. I walk through the exact migration path I used: I took a full snapshot of my existing Home Assistant instance, booted the Blue, went to homeassistant.local:8123, and used the “start from snapshot” option to fully recover. After a few minutes of restore time, I was staring at my old login screen, logged in with my existing credentials, and my Lovelace dashboard came right back. End-to-end, including unboxing, restore, and getting Zigbee/Wyze Sense set up, it took me about 30 minutes. I also address the big questions I keep seeing online: no Wi‑Fi and no built-in Zigbee/Z-Wave. I’m glad it’s wired because Wi‑Fi is less reliable, and the aluminum case isn’t friendly to radio signals anyway. My take: use external dongles—if a radio standard changes or a stick dies, you replace the dongle, not your whole core system.
