In this complete Unreal Engine 5 beginner course, I build an Endless Runner game from scratch—basically the core tech you need for a Subway Surfers / Temple Run style runner. I start from the Third Person Template (I’m using UE 5.6), set up a proper road piece with the correct pivot, and then make the path endless by spawning new floor segments in front of the player while destroying the old ones. The key takeaway here is: your floor piece needs a clean attach point (I use an Arrow component) and a simple overlap trigger (Box Collision) so the runner never hits “the end of the level.” After the endless road is working, I move into character setup, camera tweaks (including camera lag), and importing a better character from a free/cheap marketplace pack so beginners don’t have to model anything. Then I show how I retarget and trim animations (side-jumps, jumps, roll), disable root motion where needed, and set things up with montages so the movement feels smooth while still using the animation blueprint. Along the way I also explain why I prefer GameMode for level systems (spawning floors/obstacles/coins), and I replace heavy casting with a Blueprint Interface so the whole “spawn next floor” loop stays clean and more performance-friendly.
