This week I’m taking Episode 44 of Tina Tries alllll the way back to April 1988 and reacting to a legendary Boston Celtics vs Chicago Bulls showdown—aka Larry Bird vs a young Michael Jordan going absolutely nuclear in the Garden. It’s peak 80s basketball energy: shorts were shorter, defense was personal, and the midrange jumper ruled the earth. I’m basically watching a time machine powered by pure competitiveness and some truly questionable fashion choices. What hit me the most is just how physical everything feels compared to what I’m used to seeing—so much grit, so much contact, and then somebody still has the audacity to take (and make) these wild shots. The Celtics feel stacked, the crowd is intense, and Jordan is doing that “fine, I’ll do it myself” thing on another level.
