My friends, welcome. In this episode I’m updating my review of the Big Agnes Skyline UL Stool because the product itself hasn’t really changed—but the price absolutely has. Three years ago, this stool retailed for $100 and that already pushed me to my limit. Today it’s sitting around $150, and in my opinion that’s absolute insanity for a luxury item whose job is simply to give you a place to sit. I go over the setup (which is very quick and color-coded), the packed size, and the overall design. Comfort is where this stool shines: it sits like a chair without a back, landing right in that middle ground between a typical stool and a full camp chair. It’s lightweight (about 1 lb 1 oz without the bag), strong, and it has held up for me through hundreds of adventures over three years. You can even use it like a small table thanks to the “bowl” shape of the seat. The only con I have is price. Big Agnes has a fantastic warranty and this is a great piece of gear—but when you can buy chairs made from similar materials for a fraction of the cost, $150 just doesn’t make sense to me.
