My friends, in this episode I take a hard look at the Teton Sports Cot Pad and answer the two big questions that always come up with cot camping: comfort and cold. I’ve done a great deal of testing with this pad and I’m ready to share my pros and cons—what works, what doesn’t, and what I’d tell Teton Sports to change to make this a better product. I also run through the basics: three sizes (Adventurer, Universal XL, Outfitter XXL), 300D polyester canvas with open-cell foam, a 2-inch thickness, and what you get for around $80. On the comfort side, this pad absolutely delivers. It makes a cot substantially more comfortable for sleeping and even for sitting inside your tent like a chair. The materials feel soft against the skin, it’s quiet when you move around, it expands fast, and I really appreciate that the cover can be removed and washed. But the insulation claim is where things get complicated—two inches of foam doesn’t do much to keep you warm on cold nights, and the “pillow pocket” is, frankly, worthless. I can recommend it for comfort on a cot; for warmth or ground sleeping, you’ll need a better system (and in cold weather, heat, heat, heat).
