Our apartment caught fire in our Da Nang condo building, and it flipped our whole week upside down. Shayna got the call while we were at Paradise Beach Bar, and the first thing on our minds was our three dogs. Thankfully they were okay, the smoke detector actually worked, and the building’s maintenance team kicked the door in and put the fire out fast—otherwise we would’ve lost everything. With our place needing cleanup and repairs, we did what we always do when life hands us lemons: we made lemonade and got out of town. We escaped two hours north to Hue with a week to kill, and it turned into the best accidental trip we’ve ever taken.
