About This Video

Day 2 of our Olympic Adventure was one of those classic overland days where the plan is simple… and the reality is chaos. We headed toward Oceanside because it’s one of the only places around there where you can legally drive on the beach, and I wanted the ZR2 on the sand for the visuals. We didn’t get very far before people started flagging us down because the rig looks like a recovery vehicle—next thing you know we’re helping folks who don’t know how to drive a beach, including winching out a stuck Audi while trying not to drag our own truck forward. On the road, we also talked honestly about why this older Colorado ZR2 still hits a sweet spot for me: analog gauges, real knobs, switches for lockers, and tech that doesn’t get in the way. Then we made it to the Brooklyn Tavern in Brooklyn, Washington—the most remote bar/pub in the state. We sat down with Ed Brewer, heard the history of the place, and got reminded why I still have hope in humanity: Ed didn’t know us at all and still told us to park next to the tavern and camp on the property. Steak, potatoes, a cold IPA, and a legendary host—this one’s for Ed.
