About This Video

In this video I put the 2025 Ram 1500 Lone Star with the Hurricane SST (standard output) to the test and answer the question everyone’s already yelling in the comments: is it actually better than the HEMI? I’ll say it the same way I said it on camera—this inline-6 twin turbo is objectively better in engineering, performance, and MPG… and yes, the HEMI still wins on sound. This truck is a mid-range demo unit (and the kind Ram won’t send us), so it’s a great look at what a “normal” SST truck feels like without the Rebel tires or the high-output HO setup. We walk around the truck, point out the appearance package, the coil-sprung rear, and some “Ram things” I love—like how they always tell you what engine you’ve got on the hood. We also call out the odd stuff, like tow mirrors on a half-ton, the low-ish stance, and the fact this one has no tow hooks. Inside, I show why Ram’s ergonomics and storage are still top-tier, even on a non-loaded trim (and yes… this demo had blown speakers at 5,000 miles). Then we do what matters: performance. Using the hidden launch control trick (sport mode, traction off, load it, dump the brake), this “value turbo” ran a 5.54 sec 0–60 with three people in the truck. Bottom line: don’t sleep on the SST—I wouldn’t avoid it, and I’d buy one.
