Back again—and yeah, it was freezing—but we finally laid out everything we’ve done to totally transform our long-term 2019 F-150 FX4 with the Coyote V8. This episode is all about the “why” behind each mod, because I didn’t build this truck to be a parking-lot flex. I’ll be honest: it’s dipping its toe into “bro dozer” territory visually, and I’ve even gotten a little self-conscious driving it. But every change was function-first, and the end result is a trail-ready full-size that’s actually set up for how we overland and test. We go through the full wheel/tire setup (Rocktrix + Toyo Open Country RT Trail), the Freedom Off-Road USA 2-inch lift with uniball UCAs, and the trimming needed to clear a true 35. Then we get into protection with Rival’s full skid package—engine, transmission, and transfer case—because I want to hit trails without stressing about the belly. My favorite “overlanding” mod so far is the Leitner bed rack setup, because it turns the bed into real storage and utility. We also installed Lasfit LEDs (aimed correctly, because blinding people is inconsiderate) and a B2 Fabrication stainless side-exit exhaust so the V8 can finally sing without killing departure angle. And we didn’t just bolt parts on—we tested. Stock it ran 7.3s 0–60; after the mods it clicked a 5.98s run, mostly because traction improved massively. Then we took it to our hill and even did the one-wheel-drive challenge, proving the combo of 35s, lift, and protection is the real deal.
