About This Video

I had a last-minute idea after we wrapped filming: do a real tow test with the 2025 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro. A lot of y’all have been telling me the I-Force Max isn’t about 0–60 bragging rights—it’s about towing—and I wanted to see if that’s true with a legit load. We hooked up our heavy utility trailer and Polaris General 4 XP (right around 3,800–4,000 lbs total), tossed the Fox QSV shocks to “firm” on all four corners, and hit a mixed highway/urban loop into Fort Worth. The big takeaways surprised me. The 4Runner squatted about 2–2.5 inches with roughly 380 lbs of tongue weight, but it wasn’t living on the bump stops (we only tagged them once on a big hit). Stability was solid—no “tail wagging the dog”—even with no trailer brakes and no anti-sway hitch. In tow/haul, it held speed well but the TRD Pro exhaust drones more than other trims, and on the highway it was mostly turbo doing the work with less hybrid assist than I expected. We ended at 10.3 MPG towing, and honestly… I’ve been ragging on this powertrain, but towing this load in 96° heat, it didn’t overheat, didn’t feel strained, and it towed better than our Ranger seems to in the heat.
