What’s up, guys? In this video I’m back with the little Dell Latitude 3190 — one of those super cheap education laptops that was basically designed to be thrown away. The screen’s awful unless you’re looking dead-on, the keyboard misses keys if you type too fast, and the plastic is so brittle it cracks for fun. Inside, it’s not much better: an Intel Celeron N4120, 4GB single-channel RAM soldered down, and a tiny 64GB eMMC that’s also soldered. They even left the solder points for an NVMe slot but didn’t fit the connector… which is just painful. Because I can’t upgrade the hardware, I did the one thing that actually matters on a machine like this: I ditched the bloatware called Windows and installed Linux Mint. The install was quick, it found all the drivers, and the whole system instantly felt snappier. From there I installed Steam with a simple one-click install (no “hacker screens”), and the gaming results genuinely surprised me — Half-Life 1 jumped from a rough experience on Windows to buttery smooth, and Half-Life 2 became properly playable with sensible settings. To turn it into a mini arcade machine, I also installed RetroDeck and used an Xbox controller. Mega Drive stuff runs perfectly, and even PSP emulation is totally doable (and looks best on the laptop’s small screen). End result: this bin-bound laptop is now a quiet, usable little Linux gaming and emulation box.
