What’s up, guys? In this video I finally ticked something off my wishlist from way back in 2020: I bought an RTX 3080 10GB Founders Edition. I couldn’t get hold of one during the mining boom (and the prices were just silly), so I ended up on a 3070 Ti, then later moved to an RX 7900 XT. The big question was simple: if I’d managed to buy a 3080 back then, would it still be doing the job for me in 2026—and would I have saved myself upgrading twice? So I dropped it into my benching rig (Ryzen 7 9800X3D / DDR5) and gave it a proper challenge on newer titles, starting with Mind’s Eye at 1440p. Raw performance was already close to my “happy place” (a solid 60fps single-player experience), and then DLSS on Quality pushed it comfortably past that while also smoothing things out. From there, I ran a bunch of benchmarks and the takeaway is pretty clear: the 3080 still blasts through 1440p, and 4K is absolutely doable in most games if you’re willing to use DLSS or tweak a couple of settings. For the £290 I paid, it’s honestly a bit of a bargain—and yes, I’m still slightly gutted I couldn’t get one back in the day.
