About This Video

In this video I’m catching up with my Dumpster PC and finally giving it the upgrade I should’ve done ages ago: a proper graphics card. This Lenovo office box started life literally out of a dumpster, and over time I’ve made it look more presentable with a cheap case, bumped the RAM up to 16GB, and swapped in an i7-3770 (the best this board will take). The problem was the GTX 1050 Ti 4GB was holding everything back, so it was time to sort the GPU properly — and that also meant ditching the OEM 180W PSU for something that can actually power a real card. I went with an EVGA 500W 80+ White PSU and an XFX Radeon RX 570 8GB, because on Linux (I’m using Bazzite) AMD just makes life easier, and the RX 570 is ridiculously cheap now — about £30–£40 — while still giving me that 8GB VRAM headroom. I explain why newer budget cards like the RX 7600 don’t make sense here: the i7-3770 can’t feed them properly, and the 1% lows get ugly. Then I test Spider-Man Remastered again and work through settings, MangoHud benchmarks, and a bit of tweaking with FSR and frame generation to get a smoother experience. The big takeaway: for roughly £150–£160 all-in, this “dumpster” rig can actually play modern-ish games in a genuinely playable way, and it’s a great example of how far cheap, old hardware can be pushed with the right upgrades.
