About This Video

Most people think Linux looks outdated, but in this video I put that idea to the test with Deepin OS—one of the cleanest, most “premium” looking distros I’ve tried. I install Deepin OS from scratch (I’m on a Mac here, so I run it inside Parallels Desktop), and right out of the box it already feels super sleek: a launchpad-style app menu, a Mac-like quick actions panel, multitasking view, and even a system tray vibe that reminded me of Windows 11. Then I give myself a full customization challenge: wallpaper swap, taskbar/dock tweaks, dark mode, cursor theme, icon theme, plus installing real apps and switching the browser. Inside Deepin’s Control Center I test themes (I end up liking “Origin”), enable dark mode, adjust dock mode/size, and play with window effects like rounded corners and the “magic lamp” minimize animation that looks very Mac-like. To finish it off, I install VLC, OBS, Audacity, and Chromium from the app store. My takeaway: Deepin OS nails the aesthetics, and with a few quick tweaks it can genuinely rival macOS in look and feel—while still being free.
