About This Video

Windows 11 is all I ever known, but I kept hearing about Zorin OS—the Linux distro that “doesn’t make you learn Linux” if you’re coming from Windows. So in this video I installed Zorin OS 18 from the live ISO, walked through the setup (updates, third‑party drivers/media formats, and skipping the census), and then jumped straight into daily-use stuff: the Start menu, system tray area, quick settings, and that super slick date/notification panel that honestly looks way nicer than Windows 11. After that, I focused on what I care about most: customization and practicality. I tried different desktop layouts in the Zorin Appearance app (including a really clean dock-style layout), switched themes, changed cursors (finally built-in, unlike my Fedora struggle), toggled desktop icons, and even tweaked the taskbar/panel margins, radius, and position. I also tested app installs in two ways—using the software store (Firefox) and downloading an AppImage from the web (Helium Browser). The big takeaway: for Windows 11 users, Zorin OS feels familiar, is straightforward to navigate, and is way more customizable than Windows 11—just remember the main drawback is Linux app compatibility, so not every Windows program will run here.
