As a Windows 11 user, I installed Ubuntu 25.10 to see what the hype is about. The installation was straightforward, but the experience? It was weird in ways I didn't expect. About This Video

In this video I tried Ubuntu 25.10 for the first time as a Windows 11 user, starting from the live ISO and going through the full install. I kept it pretty simple: interactive install, default apps, no disk encryption, and I enabled the extra media formats (MP3/MP4 and similar). Once I booted in, the first thing I noticed was my display resolution was wrong, so I jumped into display settings and fixed it to 1920x1080 at 60Hz. After that, I focused on the stuff Windows users instantly care about: the dock/taskbar position, dark mode, desktop icons, snapping, and installing apps. I moved the dock from the left to the bottom (the option I was actually looking for), tested panel mode vs dock mode, tweaked icon sizes, and switched to dark mode. Then I tried adding app shortcuts to the desktop—and yeah, it was weird and honestly more painful than Windows (and even Zorin OS), because of the permissions/trust steps. I also tested cursor theming (had to install GNOME Tweaks) and installed Brave from the App Center. My takeaway: Ubuntu runs surprisingly well and has more customization built in than Windows by default, but I still wouldn’t switch from Windows 11 because some of my apps (like Affinity for thumbnails) aren’t natively supported on Linux.
