About This Video

In this video I tested the Super Scale feature in DaVinci Resolve and basically asked one thing: is it actually useful, or is it just another checkbox. Super Scale is inside Clip Attributes, and it gives you 2x, 3x, and 4x scaling options (double, triple, etc.). Along with that, Resolve also lets you add Sharpness and Noise Reduction right there with simple Low/Medium/High toggles. From my testing, I honestly didn’t see a big difference compared to regular scaling, but it’s not completely useless. The good part is the workflow: because it’s applied in Clip Attributes, the clip comes into the timeline already scaled, and you can add noise reduction and sharpness with a couple of clicks. The problem is the trade-off—my renders tend to fail when I use Super Scale, render times go up a lot, and the chance of getting random render errors becomes higher. On top of that, the noise reduction and sharpness controls are too limited, so sometimes it can make the footage look worse because you can’t fine-tune anything. Based on my experience, I don’t find Super Scale that useful for real projects.
