About This Video

In this video I’m looking at the two annoying problems you’ll hit when you work in ACES color space and jump into DaVinci Resolve Fusion. The first one is simple but super confusing: the Fusion viewer won’t show the exact same color as the Edit tab. You’ll notice a clear color mismatch the moment you switch between Edit and Fusion, and it makes judging your comp really unreliable. The second issue is worse when you’re doing anything color-related inside Fusion. A quick example I showed is a “pure white” in the Fusion viewer, but when you go back to the Edit tab it looks a bit dull—so whatever you’re doing in Fusion doesn’t match what you end up seeing in the timeline. My workaround is basically two CST/“ACES transform” style steps using an ACES Transform node: one to fix the Fusion viewer mismatch (added after MediaOut so it doesn’t mess with the comp), and another to fix the color mismatch caused by Fusion effects by converting between sRGB and ACEScg. If you do this often, save both transforms as macros and you’ll add them in seconds.
