About This Video

In this video I’m sharing my real experience with a very specific “Media Offline” bug in DaVinci Resolve—because this one is not the regular media offline you’re used to. I break down how to identify it properly: the viewer graphic has a different shade, the clip name area turns a different red, and the timeline thumbnail (and even the Color page thumbnail) shows a question mark. Another giveaway is that in the Color tab you won’t see the usual format/info text under that clip, which makes it pretty clear you’re dealing with the bug, not a normal relink issue. Then I talk about what you can actually do about it. I couldn’t find a simple one-click fix, but I do share a practical workaround: replace the video using the original camera files. If the bugged clip still has audio, I import the original clip, enable “Show Duplicate Frames,” and use the audio duplicates to line up and swap the video sections accurately. The good part is your Fusion effects and color work can still be copied over. Finally, I explain what I think causes it in my case: iPhone footage—variable frame rate plus MPEG4—being less compatible with Resolve. My safeguard is simple: convert VFR/mobile clips using Shutter Encoder or HandBrake before importing.
