About This Video

In this video I’m sharing 7 practical tips to use Speed Warp in DaVinci Resolve without that annoying lag. Speed Warp is heavy, so the whole idea is simple: give Resolve as many resources as possible and make the clip you’re processing as “light” as possible. First, I make sure nothing else is running in the background—only Resolve. Then I avoid doing Speed Warp inside a big existing timeline. I create a new project, drop only the clip I want to slow down, do the Speed Warp there, export it, and bring that exported file back into my main project. I also cut the clip so only the portion that needs slow motion is on the timeline, which reduces what Resolve has to process. After Speed Warp, I prefer Render in Place instead of relying on Render Cache, because caching can slow things down (unless your system can truly handle it). Another big one: lower the clip resolution (4K to 1080p, 1080p to 720p). That improves performance a lot and can even improve Speed Warp quality. Finally, I don’t grade the clip before slowing it down, and I avoid Timeline Proxy for Speed Warp clips—because it still steals resources in the background.
