About This Video

In this video I’m breaking down 3 types of caching in Fusion inside DaVinci Resolve, so you can actually play your comp back without that annoying lag. I’m basically showing you how to “catch” (cache) a Fusion composition in different ways depending on what you’re doing—quick previews, heavier comps, or something you want to keep permanently. First, I cover real-time caching, which happens automatically as you play the comp. That cache is stored in RAM, so if your RAM runs out, it’ll get deleted and you may not be able to cache the entire composition. I also show the option to prioritize a specific node (right-click node > Mode > “For Cache”), so that node caches first and stays in RAM longer. Then I go into Cache to Disk, where frames are saved as raw images to a folder you choose—great, but if you change anything upstream, you’ll need to re-cache. Finally, I show the Saver/Loader method, which is like a more permanent cache: render with Saver, then swap to a Loader for smooth playback (but you’ll delete those files manually).
