About This Video

In this video I walk you through Microsoft Planner for project management in 2026, starting from the very beginning—getting into it from office.com, searching for the Planner app, and opening it up so you can see all of your plans in one place. Then I show you the quickest way to build a proper project setup by hitting “New plan” and using the Project Management template (instead of a simple plan) so you instantly get the structure you need, including boards, charts, and a schedule view. Once the template is created, I go through how the project is laid out into the typical phases—initiating, planning, executing, and monitoring/controlling—and how you can switch between Board, Grid, Schedule (calendar), and Charts to see your work from different angles. I also show you how to rename and reorder buckets, add tasks with due dates and assignments, and then clean things up with labels, progress status, and priority (urgent/important/medium/low). Finally, I demonstrate adding checklists inside a task, dragging cards between phases, and using Charts to quickly see what’s in progress vs completed—because if your structure is clean, your reporting view is actually useful.
