Crimson Desert is one of the most ambitious open-world games, but how does it actually run on the Steam Deck? In this first look, I tested performance, settings, and overall playability on the Steam Deck. About This Video

In this video I do a quick first look at Crimson Desert on the Steam Deck, and honestly… I had a lot of trouble just getting it to run. By default it wanted to use the cinematic preset with no upscaling, so I switched things around and enabled FSR (it’s got FSR 3.1) set to Balanced, then dropped the game to the lowest preset. Even then, the image looks really noisy with FSR, and in the opening section I was usually under 30 FPS—more like 19–24 FPS. It’s kind of a miracle it’s running at all, but it’s definitely rough. Once I got past the first battle, I saw some better moments where it jumped up into the mid-to-high 30s (around 36–38 FPS), with battery life estimating roughly 2 hours 20 minutes. But it’s not consistent—lighting and heavier scenes drop it right back down near 20 FPS, and combat regularly dips below 30. The controls felt surprisingly serviceable (no major stutters), but visually it can look absolutely atrocious at these settings. My takeaway: it’s close to “almost stable 30,” but not there yet. I’m going to keep testing—FSR4, more settings tweaks, and maybe config/view distance reductions—because we really just need a little bit more to make a 30 FPS lock realistic (maybe after patches).
