Meze straight up made 10 changes from the OG 99 Classics, and I walk you through the physical updates (bigger cup circumference, larger 3.5mm sockets for better third‑party cable compatibility, bass port holes, denser pads with more ear room, and the new snap-on pad system). You still get the clamshell case, but the cable situation is finally upgraded—no more cheap rubbery vibes—and they even toss in a USB‑C dongle because, yeah… this thing is easy to drive on basically anything (except maybe a potato). Sound-wise, I compare the OG’s more V-shaped, bombastic low end to the V2’s more current-gen tuning that’s neutral-leaning and balanced. The V2 bass is tamed (still fun, just not as rumbly), the midrange is way more present and clear for a closed-back, and the treble comes off warmer and less peaky. I also hit track examples for bass, mids, vocals, and imaging, then talk gaming—OG is still a blast for big booms, but the V2 is easier to read for FPS-style cues. And yes, I tested the foam inserts: to me they don’t “turn it into the OG,” they just dampen and warm the whole presentation.
