In this video, I cover the different tracks that I utilize to test out audio gear. I also share my thoughts on the differences between benchmarking audio gear and other tech. About This Video

Hey, what’s cracking everyone—this video is basically my “can it run Crysis?” moment, but for audio. Measurements are awesome (and they’ve exploded the last few years), but with headphones, IEMs, DAC/amps, and all that, graphs don’t always translate to what you actually hear once it’s on your head. That’s why I lean so hard on test tracks: they give me a consistent, repeatable way to check bass, mids, treble, dynamics, imaging, and stage across different gear. I break down how I use specific songs for specific jobs. For bass, I’ll hit stuff like a straight-up “Simply Bass Test Track” (careful—low volume), James Blake for that chesty sub-bass pulse, and Hans Zimmer’s “Why So Serious” for that natural sub extension around the 3-minute mark. For mids and overall resolution, I’m using tracks like Fleetwood Mac “Dreams” and Diana Krall “A Case of You (Live)” to hear timbre, ambience, and crowd detail. For treble and separation, Patricia Barber is brutal for sibilance (not my vibe, but it works), and GoGo Penguin is great for layering. I also share my public TIDAL playlist and explain the difference between test tracks (tools) and track recommendations (fun discoveries). And yeah—gaming audio matters too: Hunt: Showdown is a legit way to test height and space.
