So you just finished your first game? Nice! What now? Article: https://medium.com/coinmonks/free-places-to-publish-your-game-4923e3b5bb64 Anyway, the answer is Itch: https://itch.io/ ------------- Hey, I am Vojta Nevrela and I make games. I want to spend my time on earth pursuing the quest of becoming an amazing game developer (Good to note, that I am clearly on the beginning of this journey... 5 years in... -_- ) I want to share with you everything I learn, so you too can make cool games for me to play. ;) That's why I am posting on YouTube and share Open Source projects. It's also a reason why I am working at GameReady as an Education Coordinator to help nurture the next generation of Game Developers. ------------- Contact: fansi@kampairaptor.com -------------

About This Video

In this video I look at the classic “I finished my first game… now what?” problem, and I go through a Medium article that lists places to publish free indie games. While I’m reading it, I’m also doing what you should always do: sanity-checking the claims, sniffing out the ad-vibes, and thinking about what platform actually matches the audience you’re trying to reach. Some of the text is so generic it basically screams “AI article,” so I’m a bit salty about the lack of disclosure—but the platform discussion is still useful. My main takeaway is simple: if you want the least friction and the most flexibility, itch.io is the move. It’s easy to upload, you can customize your page, get feedback, track downloads, and even accept donations or sell your game. And if you do want Steam, you can absolutely do both: publish on Steam (yes, the $100 fee) and still run an itch page—plus you can legally sell Steam keys on itch to keep a bigger cut than Steam’s 30%. For browser games, platforms like Kongregate/Newgrounds/Game Jolt can make sense, but for most first-game releases, itch wins.
