January Update At #shelvingtonmodelrailway. Model Railway Layout 2026

Welcome back to Shelvington. In this January 2026 update I’m sharing a proper look at how the model railway layout is coming along in the garage. Last time this place was full of boxes, loose locos and wagons everywhere. Since then I’ve been busy unboxing rolling stock and getting as much of it as possible onto the layout where it belongs. We take a steady tour around the fiddle yard, which is now filling up fast. You can see the lines starting to look properly stocked, although I’ve clearly underestimated how much space I actually need. There’s still a bit of track to finish off in one corner and I’ve completely run out of track for the final connection, so we’re waiting on that before it can be completed. I’ve also been putting the helix to good use by testing locomotives with their trains. It’s been really interesting to see what can and cannot handle the gradient. Some Class 66 locos have struggled more than I expected, while my VI Trains, Class 37 has been an absolute star, happily hauling 13 car transporters up the helix without any fuss. It just shows how important proper testing is on a layout like this. If you enjoy OO gauge model railways, UK trains, you’re in the right place. Shelvington Model Railway is a long term garage layout project and there’s plenty more to come, including the next layer of the layout which I’m really looking forward to starting. If you’re new here, I’d love you to subscribe and follow the journey. It really helps the channel grow and keeps the project moving forward. Drop a comment and let me know what you think, especially if you’ve had similar experiences with loco pulling power on gradients. Thanks for watching and I’ll see you in the next update at Shelvington Model Railway. #train #modelrailroad #modeltrain #railway #britishrailways #railroad #railways #modeltrains #modelrailway

About This Video

Hello and welcome back to Shelvington. In this January 2026 update I’m giving you a proper look at how my OO/HO garage layout is coming along, because last time this area was basically full of boxes, loose locos, and wagons everywhere. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve finally managed to get a lot of the rolling stock unboxed and onto the layout where it belongs, so I take you on a steady tour around the fiddle yard to show how the lines are starting to look properly stocked. As you’ll see, the fiddle yard is filling up fast and it’s getting pretty congested. I honestly underestimated how much space I’d need, and there’s still a bit of trackwork to finish in one corner. I’ve actually run out of track for the final connection, so more has been ordered and I’m waiting for it to arrive before I can complete that section. The other big focus has been using the helix for proper testing. Running trains up and down has been really eye-opening for loco pulling power on the gradient. Some of my Hornby Class 66s have been disappointing and struggle to haul much up the helix, while my VI Trains Class 37 has been an absolute star—happily pulling 13 car transporters up without any fuss. Next up, I’m itching to start the next layer of the layout, which is going to be a real mission, but I can’t wait to get into it.
