About This Video

I got a big ol’ pile of Hobby Mio gear from RobotKai, and in this one I’m zeroing in on the Hobby Mio mini paint mixer/shaker—because I’ve already messed with it and I’m already in love. I’ve tried other solutions (including a lab-style mini vortex mixer that ran me about $75), and this little brick is about half that price but honestly works better for what I need at the bench. The unboxing is straightforward: tight packaging, simple instructions, the mixer, power brick, and four rubber hold-down straps (plus some 3M tape I’m not even going to use for this). What sold me is how quiet it is and how fast it mixes the nasty stuff that settles hard—like Gaia Notes metallics where the pigment turns into bottom-of-the-bottle goop. Strap the bottle down, run it 30–60 seconds, and it’s basically done. It uses an elliptical/oblong circular motion that just works, and it handles different bottle shapes (including Vallejo and GW style bottles). My main “shop tip” takeaway: bolt it down using the mounting holes on the bottom—when the base can’t walk, it gets even quieter and feels rock-solid. If it breaks tomorrow, I’m buying another one.
