In this video I break down what I like and don’t like about the BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2, and why it’s clearly a premium product the moment you touch it. The big “barrier to entry” is the price—around $179—but after testing cheaper $40 light bars, the difference is abundantly clear in materials, construction, and overall performance. You get a solid metal tube, a well-designed counterweight mount that feels safe on modern slim-bezel monitors, plus a wireless control dial and a webcam mount accessory. The Halo 2’s biggest daily win for me is the auto on/auto off proximity feature. I use it every single day, and once you extend the away detection time (I recommend 15 minutes), it becomes the kind of set-and-forget convenience that actually justifies the premium. I run my color temperature at 5,000K and leave it there, and I lean on Favorite Mode constantly because auto brightness forces 4,000K and about 500 nits, which ends up dim for my setup. The reason I upgraded from the ScreenBar Pro is the rear bias light. It lights the wall behind my desk and makes the whole office feel more comfortable. My main complaints are the fingerprint-magnet dial (I’d rather have controls on the bar) and some side glare where you can see the LEDs if you’re off-angle.
