In this video I compare the BenQ ScreenBar (base) and the ScreenBar Pro—two premium monitor light bars that are meant to give you eye comfort and a clean, even wash of light across your desk, instead of blasting your workspace with a classic desk lamp. They’re $110 vs $140, and I wanted to see if that $30 gap is real or just marketing. Spoiler: it’s real. And like I always say, I’m not here to read a spec sheet and call it a review—I focus on build quality, functionality, usability, brightness, color adjustment, and the little details that actually affect your day-to-day experience. Build quality is basically identical, and it’s noticeably better than a lot of cheaper light bars I’ve tested. BenQ uses a nice hollow metal tube (not flimsy plastic nonsense), and both mounts rotate smoothly without drama. Brightness is great on both, but the Pro is wider and covers the fringes of the desk better, more like a bigger desk lamp. Where the Pro really wins is usability and features: clearer controls with discrete buttons, a display that shows brightness/color levels, a redesigned counterweight that covers less bezel, and the proximity sensor that actually works reliably for auto on/off. If budget is tight, the base model is still solid—but if you can swing the extra $30, the ScreenBar Pro is the better investment in your quality of life.
