From the factory, iOS 26 ships with a bunch of location-based “System Services” and “Product Improvement” toggles enabled on basically every iPhone model—and a lot of them are, in my opinion, highly intrusive and unnecessary. In this video I show you exactly where to find them (Settings → search “System Services” under Privacy & Security), how to read the purple vs. gray arrows, and which items are quietly using your location all the time. The big takeaway: you can cut down on background location activity, improve privacy, and likely get a nice battery boost as a secondary benefit. I go toggle-by-toggle and call out the ones I disable immediately: Cell Network Search, In‑App Web Browsing, Networking & Wireless, Significant Locations (and I clear the history), plus the whole “Product Improvement” section like Improving Location Accuracy, iPhone Analytics, Routing & Traffic, and Improving Maps. I also point out what I personally keep on—like Emergency Calls & SOS and Find My iPhone—because those actually matter. After turning on the status bar icon, you can literally see how much gray/purple tracking you just shut down, and it’s wild how active it was day-to-day.
