About This Video

After 30 years on Windows, I finally jumped over to macOS and I won’t lie—I was properly daunted. I’m a dad, I’m spending way more time downstairs with my kid, and I needed a genuinely powerful laptop I could work on without disappearing into my office. So I picked up a MacBook Pro M4 Pro (the higher-tier M4 Pro, not the Max), and the whole goal was simple: make editing and general creator work possible anywhere, without turning it into my only machine. In this video I talk through what surprised me most: the performance is ridiculous for a laptop. I’m editing high-res/4K video in DaVinci Resolve, exporting without hearing the fans, and the battery life is miles ahead of every Windows laptop I’ve owned. The screen is also unreal—mini‑LED, super bright, inky blacks—and I explain why I skipped the etched anti-glare option (I want the clarity for photo/video work). I also cover the stuff that annoyed me: Finder versus Windows Explorer, Mac app installs feeling weird, apps not fully quitting when you hit the X, and some settings that should be obvious (like separate scroll direction for mouse vs trackpad). I also touch on gaming (better than you’d think if the game is properly ported) and Apple Intelligence, which for me is still a bit crap right now. Overall though, the switch was way easier than I expected—and it’s unlocked a workflow that actually fits my life.
