What lights did you install on the 2025 4Runner Trailhunter for an all-amber setup?

We did Baja Designs S2 fog light replacements (SAE/street legal), a 20-inch Baja Designs S8 in the lower grille, XL80 ditch lights, a Baja Designs linkable roof light bar on a Prinsu Pro rack, rock lights integrated into the rack handles, and amber S2 chase lights in the rear. Spencer wanted everything amber for real-world visibility. The goal was better performance in weather and dust without being that guy blinding everyone on the road.

Are the Baja Designs S2 fog lights street legal on the 6th gen 4Runner?

Accepted Answer

Yep—these S2 fog replacements are DLT approved and SAE compliant, so they’re super street legal. You can run them anytime you want and not have issues. I see people running non-SAE fogs and it’s just brutal for oncoming traffic, so don’t do that.

Why did you choose amber fog lights and amber auxiliary lighting?

Amber cuts through snow, dust, rain, fog—basically any nasty conditions—way better than white light down low. It also helps you see the definition of the terrain better, which matters on trail. That’s why we kept everything from the headlights down in amber, and Spencer even went amber on the ditch and roof lights too.

What ditch lights did you use on the new 4Runner and what bracket works best?

Accepted Answer

We used Baja Designs XL80s on a CBI ditch light bracket. XL80s are big and extremely bright, so bracket thickness matters—the bigger the light, the more beefy the bracket needs to be. You can also run Baja Designs brackets since they’re designed around their lights, but either way don’t cheap out on the mount.

What is a chase light and why add it to an overland or trail rig?

Chase lights help the people behind you judge distance and actually see you when it’s super dusty. That’s huge in convoys because dust can get so bad people literally stop or run into the vehicle in front. With amber S2s pointing back, you’re way more visible and it makes group trail runs safer.

How did you mount the roof light bar without messing with the windshield?

We mounted a Baja Designs linkable light bar to a Prinsu Pro roof rack using Prinsu brackets, and it sits in front of the windshield instead of being integrated into it. That makes the install a lot easier because you’re not disassembling the windshield or doing anything crazy. It’s a cleaner, simpler way for most people to run a roof bar.

What’s the cleanest way to install an sPOD switch panel in a Tacoma/4Runner/Tundra/Sequoia?

Accepted Answer

If OE Panels makes a mount for your vehicle, that’s my favorite way to do it because it looks super factory. We replace the bezel with the OE Panels injection molded piece and use an sPOD adapter so you’re not drilling or cutting on the outside. There’s some cutting behind the panel, but once it’s installed you don’t see it, and it ends up looking OEM.
