In this video I show you how to swap the outdated factory radio in a 3rd gen Tacoma (2016-2023) for a massive 14.6” CarTrimHome C12 head unit. Before I tear anything apart, I boot up the stock unit so you can see exactly what we’re working with—old-school, blocky menus and pretty rough resolution. Then I unbox the kit, go through what’s included, and I’m straight up about what I’m personally not installing (like the 4G SIM stuff, extra USB leads, and the GPS antenna) because I’m running wireless CarPlay/Android Auto and I’m trying to keep the mess behind the dash to a minimum. The install itself is simple: pop the bezel, pull four 10mm bolts, unplug the factory connectors, and drop in the included metal bracket. I show the wiring for a 2019+ truck (mine’s a 2020), which harness to use, what plugs in where, and which factory connectors are normal to leave unused. After a quick boot test (it’s basically an Android tablet built into a head unit), I button it up, confirm steering wheel controls/factory functions work, and then jump into wireless CarPlay—because that’s the whole point. Backup cam works too, but I’ll be honest: the factory camera quality is still pretty bad, and that’s not the head unit’s fault.
