About This Video

In this install I’m out in The Colony, Texas putting in a Red Atom RED6LAND landscape speaker system around a pool, powered by a Sonos Amp. This kit gives you four 6.5" satellite speakers plus a 12" burial sub, and it’s a killer value compared to a lot of the “budget” landscape options that are usually just a small full-range driver. The satellites are true 2-way speakers, and the system is flexible because we’re dealing with 16-ohm speakers and a dual voice coil sub, so we can wire it a few different ways depending on the amp and layout. We trench the whole run with direct-burial 14/4 cable, dig and gravel-bed the sub location, and place speakers to cover the patio seating area, hot tub, and pool without relying on reflections off a new wall the homeowner added. I also run an extra 14/4 for future expansion and, importantly, we fix a common issue I see: we protect the cable at the wall penetration with conduit and a proper sealed box so weed whackers and yard tools don’t destroy your wiring later. Once it’s backfilled, I do a quick demo—and it’s honestly impressive how immersive it is with just four satellites. The ground was shaking and the volume wasn’t even that high. Most outdoor systems we install need a separate high-power sub amp, so getting this kind of bass and midrange off a single Sonos Amp is a big takeaway for a clean, budget-friendly backyard setup.
