In this project I’m down in Dallas, TX installing four motorized outdoor shades on a customer’s patio. We staged everything, mounted the cassettes in each opening, set the zipper tracks, and worked with the electrician ahead of time to get outlets placed where we needed them so power routing stayed clean. Once the shades were physically in, I programmed the remotes, set limits, and then brought everything into a Bond Pro hub so we could integrate it into Control4 for app and touch-panel control. The real challenge on this one was the structure itself—there were some of the worst variations and uneven material we’ve seen, which meant shimming, gap-filling foam, and caulk work to secure everything and make it look right. After cleanup, we tested individual control and group control (all four perfectly level together), and I showed how you can run them to a specific percentage like 78% from the Control4 interface. These shades still let you see through while cutting glare, helping with bugs/dust, and blocking wind so the patio stays comfortable—even with the fireplace going. We also installed a discreet wind sensor so the shades automatically retract above around 20 knots to protect the system.
