About This Video

In this video I’m premiering Klipsch’s all-new Reference Premiere (RP) powered subwoofer lineup—RP-1000SW, RP-1200SW, RP-1400SW, and RP-1600SW—and I focus on unboxing and demoing what I think will be the most popular one for most rooms: the RP-1200SW. Klipsch fully revamped this series in-house (amp + subwoofer design), and it’s a true step up from the previous SPL line. The big takeaway is you’re getting more output and deeper extension in a more refined package. I walk through what’s in the box, the new grille design, and why the packaging is smarter (new foam that holds shape better during shipping). The RP-1200SW is significantly heavier and larger than the SPL-120—over 60 lbs—and it’s rated down to 17 Hz (vs 24 Hz on the older SPL-120). Power is up too: 400W RMS vs 300W RMS previously. I also show the updated rear controls that are easier to read from above, the WA-2 wireless port compatibility, and the redesigned port/cabinet aimed at reducing turbulence for cleaner bass. To wrap it up, I fire it up in our Dallas-area demo theater with a Kaleidescape source in a fully THX/IMAX room behind an acoustically transparent wall, and we let this thing do what it was built to do—deliver monster bass.
