About This Video

In this video I unbox the all-new Klipsch RP-1600SW 16" Reference Premiere subwoofer and then put it into a real-world, head-to-head comparison against two familiar baselines: the Klipsch RP-1200SW and the SVS SB16-Ultra. This is not sponsored—everything you see was bought with our own money—and I wanted to keep the test as objective as possible. We ran frequency sweeps in-room with no EQ and no treatments, kept the master volume the same, set each sub’s gain to max, and ran REW at -18 dB so we could compare output apples-to-apples. Once we overlaid the sweeps (14 Hz to 120 Hz), the big takeaway was output—especially below 20 Hz. The RP-1600SW showed significantly higher output in the deep bass (we saw roughly 112.76 dB at 14 Hz), and even the RP-1200SW was punching way above its class compared to the SB16-Ultra in our room. After measurements, we fired up Kaleidescape and ran my go-to Dolby Atmos demo (“Nature’s Fury”), and the room pressure was so intense the screen was literally shaking. My honest impression: Klipsch finally took subwoofers seriously, and this new RP lineup is a massive improvement over the older SPL series—enough that we’re bringing in the SVS PB16-Ultra next to keep the comparison fair.
