About This Video

In this install, I’m out in Lucas, Texas putting in the all-new Klipsch RSM-800 all-weather outdoor speakers. These are the 8-inch models, and they’re about the same overall footprint as the older Klipsch AW-650s we’ve installed a ton of over the years—speakers we’ve always liked because they’re a great value and they flat-out sound good. The big difference now is the updated physical design and the new Hyperfold port, which lets Klipsch fit an 8-inch woofer into what used to be a 6.5-inch cabinet size, so you’re getting more bass without needing a bigger box. I walk through the unboxing, what’s included (manual, set screws, individually packaged speakers), and the mounting hardware. We go over the weather grommet and rear terminal compartment, the rotating Klipsch logo for horizontal/vertical installs, and the set screw that locks the grille so it doesn’t come off outside. Then I swap out smaller, older Russound speakers under the eaves, reuse the existing speaker wire, mount the new brackets using the keyhole mounts, and lock everything down so the angle won’t sag over time. If you’re trying to cover a backyard, pool area, or kids’ play space with real output, these RSM-800s are a serious upgrade.
