About This Video

In this video I’m testing Freewell’s new Real Locking Variable ND/CPL “All Day Kit”, and honestly… I love it. The headline is the locking system: it’s magnetic, it snaps on fast, and then the pinch-to-lock ridges keep it from budging. I can twist the variable ND from 1 to 7 straight away and it stays rock solid on the lens—no worrying it’ll spin off mid-shoot. I also go through the stackable side of the kit, because Freewell included an ND32 and a 1/4 mist filter. If you’ve used VNDs for any length of time, you’ll know 1–7 stops doesn’t always cut it, so having the ND32 ready to slap on is a bit of genius. I show how quickly you can stack filters, then strip them back off again, and I talk about the case, the caps, and the little thoughtful extras like the near-field sensor for tutorials and the white balance card built into the cap. I compare it to the older Freewell version too—this new one fixes the annoying screw/tightening ring setup that always had me worried about losing parts. Build quality feels next level, the rotation is ultra smooth, and if I was buying it myself, I wouldn’t hesitate (the full kit is $300, and I’ve got a 10% code in the description).
