About This Video

If you’ve got a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and you’ve ever thought, “I’d love to film cars, but I can’t be doing with a massive setup,” this video is for you. I’m reviewing the Tilta Hydra Alien Mini, and honestly I’m gob smacked at how quick it is. You can move it around the vehicle in seconds—bonnet, door, low side angle, even the back for roller shots—and it’s the most affordable way I’ve found to get proper dynamic car footage without the usual headache. I break down how the system actually works: the arm and damper control, why counterweights matter, and how to balance it so it bounces cleanly without knocking about. I also show the electronic suction mount with the pressure monitoring gauge, which is the big reason I went for the Ultimate Kit—when you’ve got a £500–£600 Pocket 3 hanging off the side of a car, you want that extra reassurance. It’s not sponsored, Tilta don’t even know I made this, and we bought it with our own money. It’s not perfect though. I did notice micro shudders on longer clips—most people won’t spot it in a 2–3 second shot, but it’s there. Tilta have an extra part to help (around $60) but it was out of stock, and I’ll update once I’ve tested it. Either way, at this price point, I’m using it on professional shoots moving forward—just pair it with NDs so you can lock shutter and get proper motion blur.
