While dog treats should never replace well-balanced meals, I like to view reward-worthy moments and snack time as another opportunity to provide our pups with extra nourishment. That's why, whenever I'm in recipe development mode, I select each ingredient carefully and purposefully. Today's savory soft chews only call for a few simple ingredients: lean ground turkey (a quality protein), 100% pure pumpkin purée (which offers up digest-aiding fiber), and plain/unflavored gelatin powder (great for joints, digestion, hair, skin, and nails). About This Video

Today I’m whipping up one of my favorite savory, soft-chew dog treats: Turkey Pumpkin Gelatin Bites. They’re super easy to make, packed with key nutrients, and yes—thanks to the gelatin—they’re delightfully wiggly jiggly. I love this texture because it’s fun, but it’s also a great option for dogs who have dental issues or just prefer softer treats over crunchy biscuits. Plus, plain unflavored gelatin has so many benefits for our pups—joints, digestion, hair, skin, and nails. This recipe is a spinoff of my original chicken “jello” treats (and the feedback on those has been amazing). I originally started making gelatin treats because my aging chihuahua showed early signs of arthritis, and I wanted a natural way to help nourish his joints—so I kind of view these as little nutritional supplements. In the video, I walk you through exactly how I make them using lean ground turkey, 100% pure pumpkin purée (not pie filling), and unflavored gelatin. Once they’re set in the fridge, pop them out, toss one to your pup, and wait for that tail wag—especially after they realize how tasty that savory flavor is.
