After weeks of real-world use, here’s my honest long-term review of the OLLO Audio X1. In this deep dive, I compare the OLLO X1 to other reference headphones like the Audio-Technica R70xa, Dan Clark Audio Aeon X, and Audeze LCD-X. We’ll cover detail retrieval, bass response, mids, staging, EQ, calibration with the RME ADI-2, and how it performs for mixing vs mastering. The OLLO X1 is designed as a neutral mixing headphone—but is it the right choice for producers and engineers? Find out how it stacks up in real mix sessions, with calibration, and against some of the best headphones in the market. About This Video

In this video I’m revisiting the OLLO Audio X1 after weeks of real-world use—actual mix sessions, lots of reference tracks, and a bunch of A/B comparisons—because I finally feel like I “get” what the X1 is. I brought a few producer/engineer friends over to get honest impressions, and the common theme was the same thing I’ve been hearing: the X1 is brutally transparent, confidence-inspiring neutral, and it stays clear even at low volume. Comfort and build are strong (the wood cups look great), and the sound is basically a microscope for mix decisions—reverb tails, delays, compression artifacts, and midrange balance show up immediately. On my end, I ditched the USC2 plugin from the chain. The UI felt clunky, the Harman target in-app made the X1 darker than I like, and I’m just not a fan of software-based calibration when I can avoid it. Instead, I loaded the individual calibration file into my RME ADI-2 FS R Black Edition and did what I normally do: a small bass lift (about +2.5 dB around 60 Hz, wide). The X1 takes EQ extremely well—still natural, still detailed, and never bloated. I also compare it directly to the Audio-Technica R70xa (and touch on the DCA Aeon X and LCD-X). My takeaway: X1 is the better dedicated mixing tool—neutral, fast to work on, and uncolored. The R70xa feels more open and spacious with more “performer” energy, and it can cover mix/master duties if you EQ it right, but for pure mix accuracy, I’d still grab the X1 first.
