Welcome back to Paragon Ridge Ranch—Chrissy here. In this video I tackle a project that’s been needing done for about 6–9 months: making these dog houses (that Jason Crocker and Jarad Crocker gifted us) actually work better as chicken coops. The biggest issue was simple—access. I couldn’t get in there to collect eggs or clean it out without my “handy dandy egg collector” tool Jeremy made me, and the girls were laying in a corner on the floor, stacking on top of each other and leaving me dirty eggs. So we took charge and made one easy upgrade that changes everything: we cut a big access door in the back, framed it with 2x4s, and hung it with those cheap hinges I always tell y’all to grab when you see them for a dollar. We added a quick, functional latch setup and trimmed the screw tips on the inside so nobody gets hurt (because yes…one of those cut-offs shot straight in my mouth—don’t do that). Then we dropped in one of my favorite “move-it-anywhere” nesting boxes and fluffed up fresh bedding. The takeaway is real farm life: make it functional, make it safe, and make it easier to clean—because chores don’t stop just because the weather’s pretty.
