About This Video

Come step inside our Ultimate Chicken Coop at Paragon Hatchery with me while I do a real, day-to-day tour of the breeder pens—right in the middle of molting season. And yes… it looks like a chicken exploded in places. Feathers everywhere. I talk about what I’m seeing across the different pens (some are hard molting, some are more medium), how that slowdown hits egg production, and what I’m doing to help the girls through it with better treats and nutrition—even when some of them act like they “don’t really give a darn” about the corn I put out. I also show you our newer pen setup and what we’re still trying to figure out for shelter. We had tarps up during the nasty rain, but long-term I’m planning proper protection from the wind and winter weather (wind is the big one here in Oklahoma). Then we get into the fun stuff: my Ayam Cemani flock—full black rock stars that lay white eggs—and some of the adorable little Cemani babies I’ve been hatching. To wrap it up, I give you an update on our ultra-rare Indio Gigantes (Pablo and Pedro included), how we keep them right in our backyard by the house, and a look at the sweet chicks we’ve hatched and are keeping back to watch colors and growth.
