About This Video

In this video, Parker and I head out into the woods to get our place ready for deer season the way we always do—putting the Millennium blinds back together, getting the fabric on, and cleaning up shooting lanes and trails. I take the fabric off during the summer because the sun just kills everything, and I’m trying something different this year by setting the blinds out about a month earlier than we did last year. My hope is the deer get used to those big old things sooner and quit acting spooky in spots where we just haven’t seen the deer like we used to. We also put a new tool to work—the Prunarbo battery powered pruners with the extension pole. I’ll be honest, I didn’t read all the directions at first, but once we got it figured out (double click the trigger, flip the transfer switch, adjust the angle), it made quick work of the little limbs that hang in the way. We trimmed low branches over the trail from the side-by-side (ticks, poison ivy, and bugs were horrible), left a few key branches because bucks use them for scrapes, and talked through future plans like opening up a thicket and freshening up a small food plot. It’s real ranch life prep—heat, horse flies, spider webs, and all.
