About This Video

In this video I break down my 30-day, real-world review of the Sparks Overland gas-powered Mini Heater—after thousands of miles of it bouncing around on rough trails, corrugated roads, and highway driving. Spoiler alert: it’s been working pretty dang good. I walk through the build quality (self-retracting carry handles, sturdy legs, solid latches, heavy-duty fittings), how I store the hose/cords in the case, and how I actually run it in camp—usually heating my enclosed awning room and sometimes my rooftop tent. I also cover the practical stuff that matters when you work from the road like I do: power draw, noise, fuel use, and cold-weather performance. Startup draw is about 95 watts, and once it’s running it sips power depending on fan speed (I usually keep it at 2). I ran it in the 20s in Colorado and it kept me alive, and I’ve used it in rain, snow, and wind without issues. It adjusts for elevation (up to 16,000 ft), has thermostat/manual modes, a Bluetooth app, and even a built-in carbon monoxide detector. It’s not cheap—I paid over $1,500—but I paid for quality because I’m not running a lowest-bidder heater under my rooftop tent while I’m trying to sleep. The only issue I had was the magnet on the controller coming off, and Sparks already fixed that with a new design. Not sponsored, no kickback—just sharing what’s worked for me.
