At the start you’re on BLM land, so it’s free game and there are turnouts—just don’t expect to get super far off the trail. Once you’re in Capitol Reef National Park, camping is basically limited to Cathedral Valley Campground. Later on I hunted for something more isolated and ended up with a wind-protected canyon pull-off that checked all my boxes.

The big hitters for me were the Cathedral Valley views and the monoliths—Trails Off-Road calls them towering, and I 100% agree. The overlooks are worth a quick stop if you’ve got time, but I was trying to keep moving to find camp.
