About This Video

In this video I walk through the camp kitchen gear I actually use every day when I’m living on the road for months at a time. Nothing is sponsored—this is all stuff I bought with my own money—and it’s built around one goal: make cooking (and cleanup) fast, repeatable, and compact. I start with the big-ticket items like my Cook Partner two-burner stove hooked to a 5 lb propane tank (mine has been going strong for about four years… but keeping it open-air in the back has definitely helped the burners rust). From there I get into my water setup, including my DIY hand-pump mod and my Lifesaver Jerry Can (with the big warning: don’t let those filters dry out, or it won’t work next season—ask me how I know). The heart of my kitchen is the Kelty Camp Galley Deluxe organizer clipped to my tent ladder. That’s where I keep my GSI metal cutlery, my spice kit (Montreal steak seasoning is basically my personality), and a pepper grinder because fresh ground pepper is non-negotiable for me. I’m also a big fan of nesting gear, so I show my GSI skillets with a little GSI cloth between them, plus a Sea to Summit nesting cook set that saves a ton of space. Finally, I cover the small stuff that makes a huge difference—metal plates I can heat-dry on the stove, leakproof squeeze bottles for olive oil and soy sauce, a windscreen to speed up boil times, and my coffee kit (grinder + pour over). If you’ve got a better way to do any of this, tell me—I’m always tweaking my setup.
