About This Video

In this video I jump right into the arrow build I keep coming back to for public land whitetails: an Easton Axis 5mm with match-grade .001" straightness. I like the 5mm platform because it’s the sweet spot—better penetration and less wind drift than a 6.5mm, but with way better aftermarket support than most 4mm setups. I’m also running a 300 spine even though the chart would push me toward a 340, because once you start adding real point weight, that arrow is going to act weaker at launch and you need to spine up. From there I walk through the “business end” and why each component is there. Up front I’m using a one-piece CNC stainless Ethics Archery insert to add 100 grains for durability and to boost FOC, paired with a 100-grain Magnus Black Hornet—tough, easy to find, and backed by a legit lifetime warranty. Out back I’m running a standard X nock until season, then I’ll swap to a Nocturnal lighted nock for filming, impact visibility, and arrow recovery. I finish with a quiet, accurate three-fletch helical AAE Max Stealth vane setup and all-white wraps/vanes because blood on a recovered arrow is a gold mine of tracking information. This build lands around 550 grains and ~15% FOC, and I share a real hunt where that extra durability and front-end weight made a huge difference on a scapula hit.
